What changes the price of an aerial job
We do not publish prices, because two houses on the same street can be two different jobs. What we can do is tell you exactly what we are looking at when we price it, so nothing on the day is a surprise. Most standard aerial replacements are a single visit.
A corroded connector, a water-damaged downlead or a loose bracket is a repair, and a repair is a fraction of a replacement. A 20-year-old aerial that has been re-strapped twice is a replacement, and patching it again is money you spend twice.
We do not decide which it is from a phone call. The engineer tests the signal at the aerial and at the wall plate, and tells you which one you are looking at before anything comes off the roof.
Signal strength across this patch varies a lot over short distances. Leeds, Bradford and the valleys around Halifax and Keighley all have addresses where the transmitter is fine on one side of a hill and marginal on the other.
A standard wideband aerial is enough in a strong signal area. A marginal address needs a higher gain grouped aerial, and sometimes a different transmitter altogether. The aerial is the part that has to match your address, and it is the part most often got wrong on a cheap install.
Most houses are a ladder job. A three storey terrace, a steep pitch, a conservatory in the way, a chimney only reachable from the far side, or anything over a public footpath can mean a tower or scaffold, and that is a separate cost we would rather flag early than spring on you.
We will not work off a ladder where it is not safe to. If access is the constraint we will tell you what it needs, and you can decide.
One point in the front room, using the existing cable, is quick. Three points on new cable, run externally and dropped in behind the plaster in three rooms, is most of a day and the cable itself adds up.
Where a cable goes matters as much as how long it is. Clipping neatly under a soffit and down a corner is a different job from lifting floorboards or getting through a stone gable.
Sometimes the aerial has to go higher to clear a roofline, a tree line or a neighbouring extension. That means a longer mast, a heavier duty bracket and often a guy kit, all of which have to be specified for wind loading rather than guessed.
It is the difference between an aerial that survives a Pennine winter and one we are back to look at in February.
Splitting one aerial across several rooms drops the signal at every point. A masthead or distribution amplifier puts that back, and on a communal system the distribution is most of the work.
Worth knowing: an amplifier on an already poor signal amplifies the noise with it. If the aerial is the problem, an amplifier is not the fix, and we will say so rather than sell you one.
How we handle it: the engineer prices the job at your property once they have seen it, and you agree that price before any work starts. No call-out charge on a booked job, no hourly meter running, and no work carried out that you have not said yes to.

What people ask us before booking
How quickly can you come out?
It depends on the day and where you are, but we work across the patch daily from Colne, so we can usually get to you within a few working days. If you have no picture at all, say so when you call and we will fit you in as early as we can.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
There is no separate call-out charge on a booked job. The engineer looks at the work, gives you a price for the job in front of them, and nothing starts until you have agreed it.
Will I need a whole new aerial, or can it be repaired?
Often it is a repair. Corroded connections, a water-damaged downlead or a loose bracket are all common and all fixable. What we will not do is guess down the phone. The engineer tests the signal at the aerial and at the wall plate, then tells you which it is and what each option costs before touching anything.
Can you get Freeview working in a poor signal area?
Usually, yes. Signal varies a lot over short distances around Leeds, Bradford and the West Yorkshire valleys, and a lot of poor pictures come down to the wrong aerial for the address rather than no signal at all. A higher gain aerial, a different transmitter or extra height often solves it. Where terrestrial reception genuinely is not viable, Freesat is the alternative and we will tell you plainly if that is where you are.
Do you do communal and commercial systems?
Yes. Flats, HMOs, care homes, hotels, pubs and offices, including communal distribution, headends and multi-room feeds. We plan the work around the building staying in use.
Can you add a second TV point?
Yes, and it is one of the jobs we get asked for most. We cable and amplify it properly so the original point does not lose picture quality, which is the usual result of a splitter pushed onto an existing feed.
Do you work at height, and what if scaffold is needed?
Most jobs are done safely from a ladder. Where they cannot be, on a three storey terrace, a steep pitch, or anything over a public footpath, we will tell you that a tower or scaffold is needed and what that involves before you commit. We will not work off a ladder where it is not safe to.
